Currently each applicant is eligible for $650 cash assistance per year to be put toward the cost of transportation, meals, and lodging for out of town treatment; prosthesis; food supplements; colostomy supplies; cancer related medications; and respite care. The Iron County Cancer Unit also operates a loan closet with assorted equipment and supplies for the patient’s care and comfort at home. These items can be used for as long as needed. We have been averaging 45-50 applications a year. Our operating expenses include $250 per month rent, insurance, electric, equipment maintenance, telephone/internet, and office supplies. We make every effort to be as frugal with funds as we can. Our rent increased $50 per month this past year. It may not sound like much, but that is a tank or two of gas taken away from mileage money for applicants.
We are an All-Volunteer Organization
We are an independent organization, and not associated with any other cancer organization. Our goal is to provide for the raw needs of our applicants. Could you image being told you have cancer and need to see an out of town doctor, but can’t affrd a motel? Or you need a temporary wheelchair to be able to leave your house with nowhere to turn? That’s where we come in. We are the only service of this kind in the county. We have serviced the county for 17 years. We are extremely grateful for your trust and assistance in serving our purpose.
